Position Title: Development Accountant
Job Class: Full-Time/Exempt
Reports To: VP of Finance, Finance Department
Position Summary:
Serve as a primary accountant for the Development Division, working closely with project managers and corporate staff to ensure all draw requests are processed and corporate overhead charges are reimbursed. Responsibilities include processing corporate/management payables, processing development draw requests, analyzing draw schedules and reconciliations of development phase property bank accounts and general ledgers; creating and booking property accruals and journal entries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works collaboratively with the development team.
- Process all project draw request transactions.
- Research and answer project managers’ questions regarding draw requests.
- Process corporate/management payables.
- Allocate corporate expenses to property accounts.
- Process corporate expense reports.
- File all invoices electronically on the appropriate drive.
- Maintain and reconcile (monthly) the general ledgers for all active development projects.
- Responsible for timely payment of development project utility bills.
- Establish working relationships with project managers, corporate staff and vendors.
- Process all check requests and vendor payments for all projects in development.
- Process state registration for all entities.
- Assist with audits on projects in development.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies:
- College degree required: Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
- Three to five years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or cost accounting.
- Knowledge and proficiency in GAAP.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with MS Office software, a strong knowledge of Excel and QuickBooks is required. Knowledge of property management software such as RealPage/OneSite or Yardi Voyager is preferred.
- Must be organized and exhibit great attention to detail.
