Position Summary:

Serve as a primary accounting liaison to the properties, working closely with the Portfolio Managers and Community Managers to ensure lease charges, security deposits and accounts payables.  Responsibilities include: initiating monthly property closing and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, reconciliations of property bank accounts and general ledgers; create and book property accruals and journal entries, assist with year-end audit; reports directly to the Controller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure weekly receipt of batches from our communities.
  • Research and answer Community Manager’s questions regarding tenant statements.
  • Prepare security deposit refunds for tenants.
  • Verify community invoices to include: ensure proper coding and notifying Community Portfolio Managers of assigned community of batch errors.
  • Responsible for timely payment of community utility bills.
  • Ensure timely disbursement and administers community petty cash funds.
  • Establish working relationships with Community Portfolio Managers, Community Managers and vendors.
  • Process all check requests, vendor checks, security deposits, and mortgage payments for our communities. Also responsible for mailing vendor payments and forwarding copies of returned checks to communities.
  • Correspond and send copies of annual tax and insurance bills to mortgage companies for payment and follow up with mortgage companies to ensure timely receipt of annual tax and insurance payments.
  • Responsible for key vendor payments for all properties (ex. RealPage, Compactor Systems, Inc)

Minimum Requirements and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or other relevant degree program
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in accounting preferred. Real estate accounting experience highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • General Ledger reconciliation experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office software, strong knowledge of Excel, Yardi Voyager or RealPage/OneSite software preferred.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Must be organized and posses the ability to multi-task.
