Amani Place is the preservation and redevelopment of Edgewood Court Apartments, a 70-year-old distressed Section 8 property in a revitalizing area of Atlanta that was under-managed and struggled with crime. The name ‘amani,’ which translates to ‘peace’ in Swahili, was chosen by residents as the community’s new name. Developed by Jonathan Rose Companies and Columbia Residential, Amani Place is a transformation that now provides a total of 222 affordable homes and much-needed community amenities through the renovation of the existing 204 units and the new construction of three residential buildings. The project placed an emphasis on greening and healthy housing, receiving both Enterprise Green Communities and Fitwel certifications. The 4 percent federal and Georgia state Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit) was used to finance the property, with investment provided by U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation.
