Columbia Residential and The Housing Authority of Columbus, Georgia, Announce Grand Opening of Miles Crossing Senior Residences
New 90-Unit Mixed-Income 55+ Community Brings High-Quality Housing to Downtown Columbus
COLUMBUS, GA – April 23, 2026 – The Housing Authority of Columbus, Georgia (HACG), and Columbia Residential gathered with community leaders, partners, and residents this week to celebrate the grand opening of Miles Crossing Senior Residences. The brand-new, mixed-income 55+ senior apartment community is designed with comfort, convenience, and connection in mind. Thoughtfully crafted for today’s active seniors, Miles Crossing offers beautifully appointed one- and two-bedroom homes, featuring an array of amenities. The development marks the seventh successful mixed-income community completed through the longstanding partnership between Columbia Residential and HACG.
Built on the site of the former Booker T. Washington housing complex, demolished in 2015, Miles Crossing transforms the site into a modern residential community for seniors just south of Downtown Columbus and reflects a shared commitment to revitalizing the surrounding neighborhood while delivering exceptional quality housing.
“Miles Crossing represents the best of what public-private partnerships can achieve,” said Laura Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of HACG. “This community gives Columbus seniors a beautiful, safe, and amenity-rich place to call home — and we are proud to see this important site reborn as a cornerstone of the neighborhood.”
“We are excited to deliver Miles Crossing to the Columbus community,” said Robert Fink, Chief Development Officer of Columbia Residential. “This development reflects our commitment to designing homes that allow seniors to age in place comfortably and affordably, with high-quality finishes, energy-efficient appliances, and access to services seniors need to live actively and independently.”

Community amenities include a leasing office, community room, fitness center, laundry center, business center, movie theater, package room, beautiful courtyard & garden, and dog park.
Sustainability and Green Building
Miles Crossing is certified under the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and meets ENERGY STAR program requirements. The development’s energy-efficient design is intended to reduce residents’ utility costs, improve indoor air quality, and encourage walkability and use of public transit.
Location and Connectivity
Situated just south of Downtown Columbus at the intersection of Victory Drive and Veterans Parkway, Miles Crossing offers convenient access to essential services and amenities. Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital is located 1.6 miles away, with grocery, banking, postal services, and retail all within two miles. Public bus service is accessible along 6th Street, and the Columbus Police Department and Mildred Terry Public Library are just blocks from the community.
Financing
The $26 million development was financed with federal and state 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits allocated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, equity investment from RBC Community Investments, construction financing from Citibank, and additional funding from HACG, the City of Columbus, and other public sources.
