In the News: Senior Housing Development in Decatur Celebrates Ribbon-Cutting

Columbia Residential recently celebrated the ribbon-cutting of The Link, an 80-unit affordable senior housing development in Decatur, located at 515 E. Freeman St. The Link has 70 affordable units and 10 market-rate units, which are available to tenants 62 years and older.

The project is considered a transit-oriented development since it is located at the corner of Freeman and Sams Streets near the Avondale MARTA station. In May 2021, MARTA sold the land to Columbia Residential specifically for senior affordable housing.

Columbia Residential completed phase one in 2018, which was a 92-unit mixed-income senior community, and began leasing at The Link in June 2025 with a ribbon-cutting held on Feb. 13, 2026.

“The Link at Columbia Senior Residences demonstrates what’s possible when public and private partners come together to address critical housing needs in our community,” said Robert Fink, Chief Development Officer at Columbia Residential. “We’re proud to deliver modern, maintenance-free apartment homes that allow seniors to age in place with dignity while maintaining convenient access to transit, services, and the vibrant downtown Decatur community.”
